Its teaching characteristics are diverse, multi-dimensional, multi-layered, and chain-like. The essence of its educational ideal is not targeted at any specific major and does not overly emphasize design applications, aiming to develop learners' thinking, creative, and hands-on abilities, ultimately achieving the transition from concept to practice. Design fundamentals training helps aspiring design students break free from existing habitual thinking patterns, gradually shifting from the mindset of a "natural person" to that of a "designer." Therefore, it is an innovative preliminary education aimed at cultivating outstanding design talents. Design sketching is a sketching form guided by design concepts, involving various sketching practices and creative activities with the teaching objective of art and design. For a long period, sketching teaching in design disciplines followed the content and methods of sketching in disciplines. In teaching, we have deeply felt the continuous disconnection and contradictions between sketching teaching aimed at cultivating concrete painting skills and that aimed at training abstract forms and design concepts in terms of concepts, objectives, and methods. How to make sketching become a training for the essence of design creation rather than merely an artificial artistic expression training has become a crucial issue that design teaching and research must address. In the past decade, design fundamentals researchers and practitioners have actively explored the concepts, objectives, methods, and significance of sketching training as the foundation of design education, starting from the terminal of design practice, the initial stage of design education, and the various problems encountered in design thinking and creation.
