Features: Design fundamentals cover four main aspects: design focused on training observation skills, aesthetic skills, shaping skills, and expressive skills; design centered on form, function, scale, materials, and technological processes; national culture featuring patterns, decoration, and traditional Chinese culture; design theory based on design history and fundamental design theories. Design fundamentals education is a preliminary design education under the concept of design without specific professional boundaries, with an academic philosophy that is open-ended, broad, and solid. Its teaching characteristics are diverse, multi-dimensional, multi-layered, and chain-like. The essence of its educational ideal is not targeted at any specific major and does not overly emphasize design applications, aiming to develop learners' thinking, creative, and hands-on abilities, ultimately achieving the transition from concept to practice. Design fundamentals training helps aspiring design students break free from existing habitual thinking patterns, gradually shifting from the mindset of a "natural person" to that of a "designer." Therefore, it is an exploratory preliminary education aimed at cultivating outstanding design talent. Design color is a color-structured form guided by design concepts, involving various color sketches, color research, and color practical activities conducted with the teaching objective of art design. For a long period, in the color teaching of design disciplines, we followed the teaching content and methods of disciplines, encountering numerous difficult-to-solve problems in both teaching and design applications, making us deeply aware of the differences between the two. How to make color training an essential training for design creation rather than merely a training for artistic expression has become a key issue for design color teaching that needs to be studied and resolved. Many design educators and practitioners have rethought design fundamentals education from the end of design practice, actively exploring the concepts, objectives, methods, and significance of color teaching as a part of design fundamentals education.
