Introduction to Environmental Art and Design Expression -- Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression Series

Author: Wu Xiaoqi et al.
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-01-01
Features: This series of textbooks is one of the art and design teaching materials organized by the Design College of the China Academy of Art. Originally planned to compile 50 books, this series aimed to form a scale and influence the design and art community. Although I initiated this project, I felt the responsibility was too great to bear and believed that a diverse and flourishing approach was better. Therefore, no chief editor was appointed, and each contribution is held accountable for its own quality. The merits and flaws will be judged by public opinion. Today, the design market is booming, and everyone is busy and somewhat ( means restless and impulsive in this context). High-quality teaching materials are scarce, and the lack of theory leads to the emptiness of design, which is an undeniable fact. Xiaoqi and fellow colleagues, squeezing time like a sponge, took the trouble to compile the "Series on Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression," leaving behind a valuable record. This is truly commendable. Indeed, for the sake of countless students, as a teacher, it is a duty I cannot shirk. Teachers Wu Xiaoqi from our Environmental Art Department and radar from the Industrial Design Department have taken the lead. We should follow suit. I have good working relationships with these teachers and sincerely wish them even greater achievements.
A few hundred words of introduction are the hardest to write. To be concise yet meaningful, it requires not only skill but also knowing where to start. After careful consideration and multiple revisions, I finally wrote an "plain language" piece, which serves as the preface.
Professor and Deputy Dean of the Design College, Doctoral Supervisor Wang Guoliang of the China Academy of Art,
Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression is the foundation of environmental art and design, and it is increasingly valued as an important aspect of modern commercial competition bidding. In compiling this series, we attempt to start with the basic principles of architecture and environment, from hard-line sketches to colored renderings, and even to the widely used computer drawing techniques in modern applications, explaining a complete and progressive learning method. We hope that through our introduction, beginners, especially students from similar professional institutions, can receive proper guidance in their studies, quickly master the professional techniques of architectural and environmental imagery expression, and achieve twice the result with half the effort.
The Environmental Art Department of the China Academy of Art has always emphasized the mastery of watercolor rendering skills for students. In ink and wash rendering exercises, it focuses on inheriting the traditional Chinese humanistic spirit. This training method has been proven effective in practice. Students' professional painting skills rank among the best in similar institutions nationwide and have become the "specialty" of students in the Environmental Art Department of the China Academy of Art.
