Features: Forensic toxicology is a discipline that applies the theories and techniques of toxicology and related fields to study poisoning caused by suicide, homicide, or accidental or disaster-related incidents in a legal context. Substance abuse, environmental pollution, and iatrogenic drug poisoning are also common research topics. Through the study of this course, students are expected to master the fundamental theories, basic knowledge, and essential skills of the discipline; become familiar with the characteristics, routes of poisoning, toxicological effects, symptoms of poisoning, toxic doses and lethal doses, blood concentration of poisoning and lethal blood concentration, pathological changes of poisoning, and specimen collection for toxicological analysis. Combined with the study of "Forensic Toxicological Analysis," students will be able to handle general poisoning cases in forensic identification and make correct preliminary assessments for complex cases, as well as possess preliminary research capabilities in forensic toxicology. From nearly 20 years of teaching practice, it has been found that the lecture time for "Forensic Toxicology" is more suitable to be arranged before "Forensic Toxicological Analysis." To highlight the features and practicality of this textbook, key points for forensic identification are further enriched and elaborated when writing about poisoning cases of various toxic substances. Typical or complex cases are listed in each chapter. In addition to black-and-white photographs, a small number of color images have been added to supplement the explanation of relevant theories and techniques using real cases, which can serve as references for students during the teaching process.
