Features: On the occasion of the new edition of the "English Examination Guidance Series for Master's Degree Applicants with Equal Academic Qualifications" being released, we would first like to sincerely thank our readers and customers for their long-term support and love for this series. The series was originally published by the China Renmin University Press and is now published by the Inner Mongolia University Press. For this revision, "Comprehensive Tutorial" has replaced the original "Comprehensive Module," and "Mock Test Collection" has replaced the original "Mock Test Module," while the other modules remain unchanged. The new edition is written in line with the spirit of the new syllabus and incorporates the latest information from this year's exam for revision and adjustments. We believe that the new "English Examination Guidance Series for Master's Degree Applicants with Equal Academic Qualifications" will still be a valuable resource for candidates and training course participants.
The "Writing and Translation Module" of the "English Examination Guidance Series for Master's Degree Applicants with Equal Academic Qualifications" is compiled according to the examination syllabus determined by the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. It aims to help candidates master the necessary writing and translation skills and improve their exam-taking abilities. The book is divided into two parts: Writing and Translation.
In the Writing section, the content is tailored to address the exam questions and the weak areas of candidates in writing. The materials on language and skill issues in writing are primarily selected from English preparatory courses for working professionals. Most of the short passages used, including model answers and examples, are also from these courses. These passages have been revised to better align with the content and language of the exam, making them more suitable for candidates to imitate and practice. Additionally, the chapters are structured based on the relevant provisions of the examination syllabus, ensuring stronger targeting and practicality. The Writing section also includes a certain number of writing exercises with good coverage and practical significance. The book provides reference answers for all writing exercises at the end, allowing candidates to compare and check their work after completing them independently.
In the Translation section, based on the requirements of the new examination syllabus, the focus is on explaining two types of questions: Chinese-to-English single-sentence translation and Chinese-to-English short passage translation. The single-sentence translation section starts with grammar, emphasizing the training and practice of sentence structures and word selection. Ten sets of mock Chinese-to-English single-sentence translation exercises are included, along with reference answers. The Chinese-to-English short passage translation section covers thematic topics such as education, sociocultural issues, industry, and economics, aiming to help candidates quickly familiarize themselves with vocabulary and expressions in specific areas, expose them to various types and styles of translation materials, and better adapt to this question type.
During the writing process of this book, attention was paid to the following aspects:
(1) Strictly adhering to the requirements of the examination syllabus, the difficulty level and topic selection of the book were determined. Vocabulary is strictly controlled within the syllabus vocabulary list. In writing and translation exercises, if there are obscure or difficult words, English or Chinese annotations are generally provided. The difficulty and length of writing and translation exercises are as consistent as possible with the syllabus.
(2) The selected materials are designed to be distinctive, emphasizing targeting and practicality. The materials are primarily sourced from recent years' examination books, including TOEFL, FIRST CERTIFICATE, and various textbooks, magazines, and newspapers. The short passages for writing and translation exercises are selected from preparatory courses.
(3) In addition to providing a large number of writing and translation examples and exercises, the book also focuses on offering effective methods and techniques for writing and translation to help candidates improve these skills more quickly.
(4) Emphasis was placed on the standardization of language and the coherence of content. In both the Writing and Translation sections, the book considers the general applicability and imitability of vocabulary, grammar, and exercises. The answers and model answers are made as clear and easy to understand as possible, facilitating memorization and imitation.
This book is not only suitable for working professionals taking the English unified examination but also for candidates preparing for the College English Test Band 4/6 and postgraduate entrance exams.
