Author: Hongying Li, Bowu Han (editors)
Publisher:
Publishing Date: July 1, 2004
Features: Future is a brand-new English textbook co-developed by four authoritative institutions: Longman Publishing Group, Cambridge University Press, BBC, and the British Council. It is rich in content, features fresh material, presents authentic contexts, uses natural language, and is highly practical. It organically integrates language learning with real-life situations, cultural knowledge, natural sciences, and literary appreciation. Its holistic language teaching approach enables teachers to use "task-based" methods to cultivate students' language communication skills while also training their thinking, imagination, and creativity. This book was also the first English textbook used by 12 foreign language schools in China starting in 1996.
Future has been used in our school for seven years. From the beginning of its adoption, we considered how to align the textbook with the characteristics of Chinese learners of English and develop unit and periodical tests to scientifically assess our teaching and continuously improve our instructional quality. Over the past seven years, we have consistently implemented unit and periodical tests, providing a scientific basis for teaching improvement. Now, with the official publication of Unit Tests, the authors have meticulously reviewed and rewritten the original test questions with a serious and conscientious attitude, striving to achieve a perfect balance between knowledge and fun. During the writing process, we paid attention to the following points:
(1) This book is a test, not a preparation for exams, aiming to assess students' actual language application skills and promote the cultivation and improvement of their practical language abilities;
(2) We remained faithful to the original authors' intent in writing, fully showcasing the characteristics of the original textbook;
(3) We incorporated new question types, such as vocabulary spelling, background knowledge, and multiple-choice questions, which were not present in the original workbook, to better suit the characteristics and realities of Chinese learners of English;
(4) The language material is up-to-date, avoiding repetition with domestic tests of the same level.
It is inevitable that there may be omissions or imperfections in the writing process. We sincerely welcome criticism and corrections from our readers.
