"Yasuo Love Letters"

Author: Liang Shiqiu

Features: As a typical modern free intellectual in China, Liang Shiqiu wrote "with endless days, self-entertainment through writing, jotting down thoughts as they came, without regard for structure," until his sudden passing in November 1987. With his mature and refined writing, he contributed to Chinese society in a very civilized way. His prose and essays, whether recounting personal experiences, folk customs, or reminiscing about friends, teachers, and mentors—both the elegant and the hardships; whether travelogues, musings, notes, or casual discussions, sketches, or—what truly moved people to clap their hands in admiration and recite aloud, mostly stemmed from the content, spirit, and style of his "Yashu" (Elegant Shed) writings. His "Love Letters from Yashu" is a collection of love letters exchanged between Liang Shiqiu and Han Jingqing in his later years. The main essays collected include "Miracle—What Heaven Has Done," "Injustice," "Resistance," "Painful Thoughts and Anxiety," "Melancholy," "Second Time of Tears," "Love from the Eyes," "I Have Autumn Love, I Should Love Autumn," and "Rebirth."
