Catalog of False Accusations: Supplements

Author: Hang Shijun
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1997-04-01
Features: The illustrations are sourced from the "Corrections and Additions" collection, in addition to Hang Shijun's reading notes, there are also annotations selected by him from the works of other scholars. The shortest are over ten words, and the longest are no more than three or four hundred words. None are empty or vague discussions, hence they are called "[The Treasure of Scholars' Studies]" (as quoted in Liu Chenggan's preface). This treasure naturally attracts the attention of academic researchers. For example, the entry "Bao Fa Tou Jiu" in Volume 3 includes Yang Shen's insight on the phrase "tou po" in the "You Lou Qu" of the Yuefu Collection, which was adopted in the collation notes of the Yuefu Shiji published by Zhonghua Book Company. This is a case in point. When selecting others' annotations, Hang Shijun not only notes the sources one by one but also adds explanatory remarks in some cases. These remarks may appear as small notes interspersed in the text or at the end of the entry. Some of these remarks serve to supplement information, such as the case note on "Qi Fu not being 'Fu Guan'": "[Also found in Zhao Sheng's 'Riye Leiyao,' 'Yuyang's 'Chibei Outan,' and 'Qixiu Leigao' also states so. Tian Chaoheng's 'Jinhu Zi Kao' references it as well]."
