What are the causes of vulvar tuberculosis

Patient's question:

I have been feeling uncomfortable with my external genitalia for the past six months. I can feel nodules with my hands, and it's extremely painful. There are also symptoms of ulcers with discharge. I have applied medication myself, but it hasn't been very effective. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, it was discovered that I have vulvar tuberculosis.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, vulvar tuberculosis is often caused by internal genital tuberculosis or renal tuberculosis, but it can also be infected through external contact such as sputum or sexual intercourse (primary vulvar tuberculosis). In some cases, vulvar tuberculosis may not have an identifiable primary tuberculous focus. Children with vulvar tuberculosis are often infected through contact with parents who have tuberculosis. Tubercle bacilli from internal tuberculous lesions can spread to the vulvar skin and mucosa through the bloodstream, lymphatic system, or direct inoculation from adjacent tuberculous lesions. When there is active tuberculosis in internal organs and the patient's resistance to tuberculosis is low, tubercle bacilli in the body's excreta can infect body openings through skin or mucosal damage.
