Author: Sun Qiangming (Qing Dynasty), compiled and annotated by Hu Zhusheng
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2003-08-01
Features: The materials recorded in this book generally retain their original titles. For titles with multiple names, one is selected and annotated accordingly. For excessively long or ambiguous titles, new titles are adopted, and the original titles are clearly indicated. Nine letters from Li Hongzhang to Sun Ruitian are included. Since the Complete Works of Li Hongzhang distinguishes between "Shidu" (Imperial Reader) and "Duxue" (Academic Reader), it is no longer applicable. Therefore, the remaining seven letters are titled with content summaries. The original materials recorded in this book were all lacking dates. Where possible, dates are noted below the titles in the table of contents. The book mentions the Gregorian calendar years in the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches system, and the corresponding Qing Dynasty years are generally marked in parentheses upon first mention. The original poem titles in The Poems of Hairilou appeared to be arranged in chronological order, but upon investigation, many were inconsistent. The same applies to couplets, so during this (reorganization), adjustments were made for any identified issues, while the rest were left unchanged. The main text of the book is segmented and punctuated. When quoting historical records, omissions and modifications are often made. To remain faithful to the original, omitted text is noted in parentheses, and modified words are annotated with explanations, or quotation marks are used to indicate that the original was not continuous. If there are omissions or unclear doubts, a □ symbol is added. For the poems and couplets recorded in the book, local names, aliases, as well as the names of teachers, friends, officials, and places that are difficult to understand without annotations are explained. Important plots, key quotations, and relevant circumstances of all parties involved are supplemented with annotations as much as possible. For each volume of the book, where necessary, the compiler adds notes to summarize the materials for reference.
