Features: The Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and East China University of Political Science and Law jointly held a symposium on legal theory in Shanghai in April 1983. Nearly 70 participants from legal departments, law schools, and research institutions engaged in teaching and research on legal theory attended the meeting. The symposium focused on the establishment of a socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics and the Marxist legal system. This discussion truly marked a significant beginning, laying a solid foundation for further exploration and offering some positive ideas and suggestions for the development of socialist rule of law in China. For this purpose, the editors have selected and compiled more than 30 thematic papers, speeches, and written statements, compiling them into a book for reference by comrades engaged in legal affairs, legal education, and research. This book was first published by the in December 1984. On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, it is specially republished.
