Patient's question:
On July 28th of last year, I got sick. At first, there was a small red spot on my glans, and then there was some itchy sensation in my scrotum. The doctor said it was an allergy and that I had scrotal eczema. He said the red spot on my glans was balanitis, but no matter how much medicine I applied, it wouldn't go away. When it was hot, it would itch, but when it wasn't hot, there was no sensation. Now, the glans and urethral meatus are red, especially when it's hot, and less red when it's not hot. Also, the urethral meatus and glans are very sensitive to touch. When I went to the hospital, the doctor said it was because I had been applying medicine for a long time, causing irritation. He said I am currently in the recovery phase and need some time to heal. Why is it still red after the balanitis has healed?Doctor's answer:
Phimosis Inflammation of the glans penis is called balanitis. This condition can be caused by various pathogens, local irritation, and other factors. Balanoposthitis refers to the inflammation of the inner foreskin and glans penis. A lipid substance secreted in the normal foreskin cavity can accumulate as smegma in cases of phimosis, irritating the foreskin and glans penis and leading to balanoposthitis. Drug allergy-induced balanitis is a delayed-type allergic reaction and is very common in clinical diagnosis, typically occurring 24 to 72 hours after medication. Keep the foreskin and glans penis clean and dry by regularly washing them. If phimosis or paraphimosis is present, circumcision should be performed. It might be caused by an infection.
