Features: The entries in this book are basically divided into three categories. One category consists of words that are easily confused due to similar pronunciation or spelling, such as: elicit/illicit, economic/economical, ingenious/ingenuous, childlike/childish, etc. Another category includes words that are conceptually related but are not clearly distinguished by ordinary people due to a lack of common knowledge, such as: gravity/gravitation, barrister/solicitor, tortoise/tortoise, etc. Given the widespread penetration of science and technology into human life in the modern world and its increasingly important role, it is essential to grasp the precise concepts of common knowledge terms while learning English. The last category, and also the most important one, consists of English words that are either identical or very similar in translation to Chinese but have different meanings. These are unique challenges for Chinese learners of English and are often overlooked in similar reference books written by foreigners. Examples include: loving/beloved, explain/interpret, memorize/recite, etc. The entries in this book are arranged in alphabetical order, and each entry is numbered using a combination of the first letter and a number. For the convenience of readers, the book includes a complete index of all entries at the beginning, as well as an index at the end listing all words and phrases mentioned in the entries along with their corresponding numbers. The example sentences in the entries are mostly translated into Chinese to cater to the needs of various readers.
