Clear Structure: When you first start learning to write essays, you should still remember your teacher's earnest advice: "Don't just list events." An essay that starts strong but ends weakly is unacceptable, as is one where the setup and the main point are reversed. The event is always the center of the essay—don't get lost in fancy words or lengthy descriptions. Remember, all embellishments are merely (supportive), and they should never take precedence.
Sincerity and Authenticity: This is the most crucial aspect of a good essay, if not the most important for any piece of writing. An essay that moves people is truly a good one. If a mediocre score from a formulaic essay like the "New Eight-Gu" style satisfies you, then you'll never know the joy of writing down your own thoughts and feelings, resonating with others, or even stirring them deeply.
