Features: This book is a work introducing and reviewing the main schools of modern Western economics, and it is also recognized by the Ministry of Education as a core compulsory textbook for the 21st-century economics discipline in China. The main feature of this book is the appropriate combination of knowledge, academic rigor, and accessibility, reflecting Peking University's existing academic level in this field while also incorporating recent developments in Western theories. The book provides a comprehensive introduction to the theoretical viewpoints and policy proposals of the main schools of Western economics from the early 20th century to the present, as well as the interrelationships, development, and changes among these schools, with appropriate commentary. Broadly speaking, the book mainly introduces the following three aspects of content: (1) The theories, policy proposals, research methods, and interrelationships and development among the main schools of Western mainstream economics under the influence of state interventionism; (2) The theories, policy proposals, research methods, and interrelationships and development among the main schools of Western mainstream economics under the influence of economic liberalism; (3) Other relatively independent or non-mainstream important schools of economics that fall outside the two major economic trends or are situated between them but show no particularly clear inclination. Through studying this book, readers can further expand their understanding of contemporary Western economics on the basis of a certain familiarity with its fundamental theoretical knowledge (such as macroeconomics and microeconomics), enabling them to accurately recognize and grasp the theories, viewpoints, and policies of contemporary Western economics regarding modern market economies at a broader and deeper level. This book is suitable for senior undergraduate and graduate students to study and use, as well as for readers with a certain foundation in Western economics to self-study.
