Chen Yu Zeng General Biology (2nd Edition)

Author: Wu Xiangyu
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1997-07-08
Features: This book is the revised edition of "General Biology - An Introduction to Life Sciences," edited by the renowned Chinese biologist Professor Chen Yuぜん. The writing of this edition still follows the guiding ideas and principles set by Professor Chen when he wrote the first edition, arranging the content from the lowest to the highest level of biological structure. Meanwhile, based on the recent trends in the development of the biological sciences, significant adjustments have been made to the overall framework. Out of the 36 chapters in the book, 33 have been rewritten, and 3 have been revised and supplemented. The book is divided into 7 parts and 36 chapters, covering topics such as cells and biomolecules, the morphology and function of animals, the morphology and function of plants, genetics and variation, biological evolution, the evolution of biodiversity, and ecology and animal behavior.
This book is a crystallization of the collective wisdom of 8 senior professors from the School of Life Sciences at Peking University. It offers a good depth, breadth, and academic value, making it easy to understand and highly readable. It can serve as a textbook for undergraduate students in life science disciplines and also as a reference book for high school biology teachers and related researchers.
This book is the revised edition of "General Biology - An Introduction to Life Sciences," edited by the late renowned Chinese biologist Professor Chen Yuぜん, which is currently one of the most influential general biology textbooks in China. It is written by over a dozen professors from the School of Life Sciences at Peking University, all with extensive teaching experience. The book offers a good depth, breadth, and academic value, making it easy to understand and highly readable. The book is divided into 7 parts and 37 chapters:
Part 1: "Cells and Biomolecules," covering the chemical basis of life, molecules that make up cells, the morphology and structure of cells, cellular metabolism, and basic life activities of cells;
Part 2: "Morphology and Physiology of Animals," covering the structure and function of higher animals, nutrition and digestion, blood and circulation, respiration, control of the internal environment, the immune system and immunity, the endocrine system and chemical regulation, the nervous system and nervous regulation, sensory organs and sensation, how animals move, reproduction and embryonic development;
Part 3: "Morphology and Physiology of Plants," including plant structure, reproduction and development, plant nutrition, and plant regulatory systems;
Part 4: "Genetics and Development," covering genetic patterns, the structure of genetic material, regulation of gene expression, DNA technology, the human genome, and regulation of development;
Part 5: "Biological Evolution," involving evolutionary changes in populations, speciation, macroevolution and phylogeny;
Part 6: "Biodiversity," covering the origin of life and the evolution of diversity in prokaryotes, the diversity evolution of plants and fungi, the evolution of animal diversity, and human evolution;
Part 7: "Ecology and Animal Behavior," including population structure and dynamics, various interactions within populations, ecosystems and their functions, global ecology, and animal behavior.
