After the 1978 National College Textbook Conference formulated the planning for college textbook writing, representatives from ten institutions—Beijing Normal University, Beijing Normal College, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Jilin Normal University, Shanghai Normal College, Harbin Normal College, South China Normal College, Northwest University, and Wuhan Normal College—held a writing meeting in Harbin, established a writing team, assigned tasks, and discussed related matters of textbook compilation. In March 1979, the writing team held a meeting in Shanghai to discuss the detailed outline of the book and widely solicited opinions from representatives of more than forty institutions and literary research units invited to the meeting. To further address some difficulties encountered during the writing process, members of the writing team, together with literary researchers and educators who attended the meeting in August 1979, held discussions on relevant issues, enabling the smooth progress of the textbook compilation.
