The topic of time charter contracts has already been covered in two of the author's previous books. One is Charter Party, published by Dalian Maritime University Press, and it is also the third volume of Practical Discussions on Shipping. This book was compiled from the author's lectures given earlier than 1980. Although it was slightly revised for its second edition in 1994, it still contained some oversimplified, outdated, or erroneous content. More importantly, it could no longer meet the needs of the vast readership in China, who now required higher-level information to assist in solving practical problems. The author's other book is Time Charter Contracts and Chartering Practice, co-authored with Associate Professor Yao Hongxiu of Shanghai Maritime University, and published by Baijia Publishing House in 1993. This book was also compiled based on the author's lectures, and some of its content shared the same shortcomings as the Charter Party book. To this day, it has been learned that both of these books are already out of print, which is actually a good thing. The part of the Charter Party book that covered time charter and voyage charter contracts is now completely replaced by two new books. The first is Time Charter Contracts, published in March 1997 and the sixth volume of Practical Discussions on Shipping. The second is this book, Voyage Charter Contracts, the seventh volume of Practical Discussions on Shipping.
