Features: This book uses a topic of great concern and sensitivity to the public—government corruption—as its central theme. It depicts the newly appointed Party Secretary Guan Yeping rejecting the grand welcoming ceremony offered by the Provincial Party Committee leadership and traveling alone in a modest manner. Through Guan Yeping's observations of the various forms of corruption in Yinnan County, especially the dramatic and vivid portrayals of the machinations behind the scenes, the book brings to life the true faces of officials at all levels who exist within or on the fringes of the power center. It provides a profound portrayal and mirror-like reflection of their manipulation of power and greedy psychology. Additionally, it explores the ugliness of the government and the root causes of corruption from multiple perspectives, including human nature and the system. The book features vivid plots and intricate storytelling. Even the (County Party Secretary) Wang Dengsheng himself did not expect that he and the newly appointed Party Secretary Guan Yeping were long-lost brothers separated for 37 years. His wife was also Guan Yeping's university sweetheart, while the newly appointed acting County Party Secretary Lan Xiaoping was involved in an extramarital affair with his wife. The writing is fluent, the portrayals are deep and subtle, and the narration is meticulous, combining a sense of immediacy with a penetrating insight. It is truly a rare and thought-provoking work.
