Features: Yunnan Modern Woodcuts, which first appeared in the late 1930s. During the 1940s democratic movement, they played a role in the struggle. In the early 1950s, military artists who entered Yunnan with the army and a small number of local woodcut artists created a series of woodcuts that celebrated democratic reform and yearned for a new life, with a strong sense of life. In the early 1960s, graduates of woodcut programs from new China's art academies came to Yunnan, bringing rigorous foundational training and professional woodcut techniques, and began teaching woodcuts in an academic system. Woodcut students from before and after the Cultural Revolution became the driving force behind Yunnan woodcut creation in the 1980s.
