Watermelon, Hedgehog Little Brothers Wait by the Hippo’s Side. The hippo had a cold and had a high fever. The hippo opened his wide, cracked mouth, dreaming of eating watermelon. In this area, only Uncle Rhino’s garden had watermelon. But everyone knew that rhinos were very strict, and it was hard to get watermelon from them. The hedgehog little brothers were very worried. For their good friend Hippo Brother, they were willing to trade their best things for watermelon with Uncle Rhino.
The hedgehog little brothers came together to Uncle Rhino’s garden. The older hedgehog said to the rhino, “Uncle Rhino, I’d like to trade a basket of the best mushrooms and a small bag of chestnuts for one watermelon from you.” “Get out!” the rhino said sharply. “I don’t like mushrooms or chestnuts. You little gluttons, keep them for yourselves!”
“Then, may I trade the beautiful seashells my brother and I worked hard to collect for your watermelon? Is that okay?” the younger hedgehog asked timidly. “That’s just children’s playthings. I’m not interested at all,” the rhino said without even looking at the beautiful seashells in the younger hedgehog’s hand.
“Uncle Rhino,” the older hedgehog said after thinking for a moment, “Can I trade you a very important reason for a watermelon?” “What kind of reason?” “Hippo Brother is sick with a high fever. He wants to eat a watermelon to quench his thirst and cool down.” “That’s a very important reason. Of course, you can trade for a very large and sweet watermelon!”
Without hesitation, the rhino picked a very large and sweet watermelon from the garden and gave it to the hedgehog little brothers. The hedgehog little brothers lifted the big watermelon and wanted to tell Hippo Brother that this was the big, sweet watermelon they had traded for from Uncle Rhino using a very important reason.
Why didn’t Uncle Rhino initially give the watermelon to the hedgehog brothers?
Helping Others
Uncle Rhino initially thought the hedgehog little brothers were just greedy, so he didn’t want to give them the watermelon. But when he heard it was for the sick Hippo Brother, he immediately gave them a very large and sweet watermelon. Both the hedgehog brothers and Uncle Rhino are kind-hearted people who are always willing to help those in need. This is a very important reason for making the world a better place.
