Features: What can consumers do when facing food additive safety issues? If consumers can seriously understand the properties and functions of food additives, check the ingredients, usage, and expiration dates of additives in food, they can avoid the harm they cause to our bodies. It is advisable to purchase foods with more exquisite packaging and clear labels. When buying food, consumers should recognize the original color and nature of the food, be cautious of overly white, overly bright, overly fragrant, or overly tough foods. It is best to buy food from well-known brands and avoid purchasing poorly packaged, crude, or counterfeit products. Due to the difficulty in inspecting and managing bulk food production and processing, we must pay extra attention. For example, when eating meat products, if the meat appears unusually bright red, it should be consumed with caution, as it may contain sodium nitrite, which can form a carcinogen called nitrosamine. For unusually vibrant, golden-colored preserved foods, caution is also advised, as they may contain excessive food dyes—such as butter yellow (which can induce liver cancer). Since children, especially infants and toddlers, have immature immune systems and weaker liver detoxification abilities, they are highly prone to allergic reactions to food additives in snacks. Therefore, it is recommended to limit children's consumption of puffed snacks, instant foods, and other processed foods.
