Can this child be taken?

Patient's question:

My wife had a cold and fever around 40 days of pregnancy, with coughing. On the night of January 14th, her fever reached 38 degrees Celsius. The next morning, January 15th, she went to the municipal maternal and child health hospital, where the doctor prescribed Ceftriaxone 0.5g8 plus 500ml of normal saline for intravenous infusion. After the infusion, she felt somewhat better, but by that night, her fever returned to nearly 38 degrees Celsius. Not wanting to delay, I immediately took her to the hospital again. She received another infusion of Ceftriaxone 0.5g8 plus 500ml of normal saline and returned home before dawn.
On the afternoon of January 16th, she went to the municipal maternal and child health hospital again. The doctor said her cough might be caused by Mycoplasma. A throat secretion test was conducted, and the results showed Mycoplasma positivity.

Doctor's answer:

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is generally treated with antibiotics such as azithromycin in Western medicine, which has fewer side effects. Animal reproductive toxicity studies have shown that azithromycin can cross the placenta but shows no signs of harm to the fetus. The safety of its use during human pregnancy has not yet been fully confirmed, so antibiotics should be avoided as much as possible during pregnancy. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be used for syndrome differentiation and treatment, addressing the mother's condition while also employing Chinese herbal medicine to support fetal health. Since TCM diagnosis requires a face-to-face assessment through observation, auscultation, inquiry, and palpation, it is recommended to consult a local licensed TCM hospital and seek advice from a gynecologist. Wishing both mother and child good health!
