How to deal with vulvar itching?

Patient's question:

I often clean my external genitalia, but I still feel itchy. After a test of my discharge, they only said it was contaminated with miscellaneous bacteria. I have used some suppositories and cleansing solutions, but it hasn't improved. Could you please ask the doctor what medication can cure this and can regulate the vaginal pH to normal levels?

Doctor's answer:

Vaginal itching in women can be categorized into three types:
The first type is caused by unknown reasons, such as physical irritation (underwear, friction, etc.) or other undetermined causes.
The second type is caused by vaginitis, such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, candidiasis, or atrophic vaginitis.
The third type is caused by other gynecological inflammatory conditions, such as pelvic inflammatory disease or cervical inflammation, leading to excessive or abnormal discharge and resulting in vaginal itching.
All three types can be treated with topical anti-itch cleansers for cleaning and relief. Additionally, if it is determined to be the second or third type, targeted gynecological anti-inflammatory medications can be used alongside the topical treatment.
