English translations, pronunciation hiragana, facilitating readers' understanding and learning. This textbook is designed for undergraduate and graduate students learning Japanese as a second language, as well as students from various Japanese learning classes and self-learners. It aims to teach students how to learn Japanese while providing a comprehensive understanding of basic Japanese grammar. Through approximately 60-80 hours of study, students can grasp the overall picture of basic Japanese grammar, lay a solid foundation for self-study, and achieve Level 4 of the "Japanese Proficiency Test" set by the Japan Foundation and the Japan International Education Association. This textbook is compiled based on the requirements of the "Teaching Syllabus for College Japanese (Second Language)" published by the Ministry of Education, with innovations in both content and form. The "Text" section covers a wide range of topics, diverse genres, and moderate information, while also reflecting the vitality of modern life. The "Dialogues" are concise and natural, aligning with the expressive characteristics of spoken Japanese. The "New Words" section, in addition to pitch accent, part of speech, and Chinese translations, also includes English translations. Learners can use the English translations to grasp the meaning of Japanese words more accurately and quickly. Memorizing through association and mastering the origins and patterns of Japanese loanwords through comparison can enhance readers' learning interest. The "Fun Facts" section introduces various aspects of Japan in a witty manner, allowing students to gain a relatively thorough understanding of Japan and its people while learning the language. The "Grammar Explanations" are concise and to the point, aligning with the requirements of the "Teaching Syllabus for College Japanese (Second Language)". The "Exercises" fully reflect the principles of "instructive teaching" and "student-centered learning". The formats are diverse. Among them, a large number of subjective questions aim to cultivate students' active thinking skills in foreign language learning and encourage their active participation. The entire textbook contains approximately 1,380 words, divided into three levels. The words in the "Text" and "Dialogues" sections are about 930, making up the first level. The "Memory Challenge" supplements some common words by category and part of speech, which, along with new words in the "Exercises", constitute the second level, with about 250 words. The "Related Words" section lists related vocabulary, all of which are common Japanese words with the same character, meaning, or near meaning as one of the kanji in the target word, and identical pronunciation, totaling about 200 words. This section aims to help students expand their vocabulary and strengthen their grasp of the pronunciation patterns of Japanese characters through comparison and recognition. This is the third level of words that students are required to learn and master. To facilitate self-study, all Japanese characters in the "Text", "Dialogues", "Grammar Explanations", and "Exercises" are annotated with hiragana, and 13 appendices, including reference translations for each lesson, exercise answers, grammar index, and a comprehensive list of postpositions and auxiliary verb usage, are provided at the end of the book. This textbook comes with MP3 or CD audio. In addition to combining knowledge, fun, and practicality in content, the textbook pursues a relaxed and lively style in form. For example, the "Text" and "Dialogue" sections use larger font sizes, include interesting illustrations that complement the content, and leave ample white space on the pages. Through these methods, it aims to reduce students' psychological burden, regulate classroom atmosphere, and create a joyful learning experience.
