"My heart is like boundless wind, drifting in the vast sky.
My love is like clouds in the wind, scattered without a trace.
My love is like surging seas, churning with millennia of emotion.
My heart is so lonely, like a silent peak.
Let time turn all love into eternity, forever and ever!
— Princess Wencheng
This play praises the long-standing friendship between two different ethnic groups from the front, expressing the good wishes for harmonious coexistence across generations. From the perspective of history and culture, it presents to the world the inseparable historical roots of the Chinese family through the form of songs and dances.
Taking the love story of Princess Wencheng's marriage to King Songtsen Gampo of the Tibetan Empire during the Tang Dynasty as the main plot, the play celebrates King Songtsen Gampo's broad-mindedness and portrays Princess Wencheng as a noble figure who abandoned a comfortable life to develop Tibetan-Han friendship and promote economic and cultural development in Tibetan regions. It demonstrates the intrinsic driving force of Tibetan-Han unity in advancing historical progress and the deep cultural bond of shared blood.
The historical significance of Princess Wencheng's marriage to Tibet can be summarized in four points:
1. It promoted friendly unity between the Tibetan and Han ethnic groups, establishing a political landscape where Hezhou and Han became one family and forging a new ethnic relationship.
2. It boosted Tibet's economic development.
3. It advanced Tibet's cultural and technological progress.
4. It facilitated the rise of Tibetan Buddhism.
