Features: The language materials selected for the Newly Edited English Extensive Reading Course cover various fields such as the social, political, economic, cultural, historical, journalistic, religious, sports, medical, literary, folk customs, and popular science aspects of English-speaking countries. Each unit is divided into three parts. Part 1 is to be handled in class, and students are not required to preview the vocabulary. The vocabulary test words are selected from Section A of the text, mostly consisting of potentially confusing words or important common words that may hinder comprehension. The texts are arranged from easy to difficult. The reading methods are systematically introduced in a progressive manner, covering various reading skills. Vocabulary exercises are introduced in Part 1 and Part 2 of the first and second volumes, while Part 3 and Part 4 focus on word form changes. Cloze tests primarily assess students' reading comprehension skills and help cultivate their linguistic sense. The supplementary vocabulary lists additional words related to the topics, aiming to expand students' vocabulary. Part 2 selects texts longer than Part 1, providing in-depth or supplementary content on related topics for students to read outside class. Teachers can check the reading in class or provide appropriate explanations based on the texts. Part 3 includes three to four short passages on related topics, primarily used for fast reading training. At the end of each unit, there are two discussion questions for students to discuss in class or outside class.
