Chinese Knot Series Folk Myths

Author: Xiao Xiang

Publish Date: 2004-09-01
Features: This book compiles folk myths passed down orally, divided into six sections based on historical stages. Each section's title is a symbolic summary, and the myths included in each section are, in principle, a consolidation of myths belonging to the same period and type, taken in a broad sense. The myths collected in this book are predominantly those of ethnic minorities. Our intention is: 1. China's ethnic minority myths are extremely rich, yet introductions are scarce and little-known. More folk myths should be provided, as they are highly oral in nature and can showcase the beauty of spoken language. 3. China has a vast number of ethnic minorities, and some have yet to be included, indicating that there is still work to be done. Finally, it should be noted that the myths selected for this book prioritize scientific rigor, artistic quality, readability, and romanticism while striving for consistency. During the compilation process, we made some discoveries and were pleasantly surprised, but we also had to abandon a significant number of entries or content. In short, oral myths are a precious legacy of folk literature, and we hope they will be cherished by a wide readership.
