The Cambridge History of European Economy is divided into three parts. The first three volumes constitute one part, primarily exploring the transition of the European economy from the Middle Ages to the modern era, what factors determined that the European economy, rather than other regions, was the first to complete the transformation from an agrarian society to an industrial society, and the changes that occurred in different economic sectors during this transition. The fourth and fifth volumes constitute the second part of the book, with a focus on the overall expansion in the 16th and 17th centuries and the Industrial Revolution in Europe. The third part is composed of the sixth, seventh, and eighth volumes, primarily researching and analyzing the history of economic development in Western countries, including the United States and Japan, since the Industrial Revolution.
