Features: "Every yoga pose you see demonstrated in this book was shot after I had been practicing yoga uninterruptedly for 35 years. This is not a casual practice, but rather daily practice exceeding 10 hours, and my life has been completely devoted to this great art of yoga." "Based on 27 years of teaching experience around the world and my comprehensive understanding of yoga, I have strived to guide readers, including teachers and students, to master the correct and safe methods of 200 poses and breath control through this book." — B.K.S. Iyengar, 1966
B.K.S. Iyengar is regarded as the greatest living yoga teacher in the world, enjoying international acclaim. In 1966, his book Light on Yoga was the first to comprehensively introduce the practice of yoga to the global audience, causing a sensation in Western countries and being praised as "the shortcut for Westerners to the ancient health art of the East." The book is considered a classic masterpiece in the history of yoga.
"Mr. Iyengar is a yoga master who left India in the 1950s to teach yoga in the West. His book Light on Yoga has been one of the best-selling yoga books since its publication and has been translated into 19 languages and published worldwide." — The New York Times, October 2005
"The Michelangelo of yoga." — BBC Radio, UK
"It is precisely due to Iyengar's tireless teaching and promotion that yoga has become a global fitness movement. B.K.S. Iyengar was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world in 2004." — Time Magazine, April 2004
The name of this book is Light on Yoga. Its purpose is to describe each pose and breath control method as concisely as possible in our era, given the knowledge and unique needs at hand. Therefore, the descriptions of each pose and breath control method in the book are extremely detailed, all derived from my 27 years of teaching experience around the world. The book includes the complete techniques of 200 poses and is accompanied by 592 photos to help practitioners master the relevant poses. Additionally, the book includes bandhas, kriyas, and pranayamas, with 5 photos.
All ancient yoga classics emphasize the importance of having a master's personal guidance during practice. My experience has confirmed this wise saying, so I have strived to guide readers—both teachers and students—to master these poses and breath control methods correctly and safely through this book.
In Appendix I, the author introduces a 300-week course for active practitioners, dividing them into different stages based on the structure of various poses. In Appendix II, the author groups poses according to their different therapeutic values.
