Features: The online magazine Digital Camera not only introduces readers to the knowledge of selecting digital cameras but also provides assistance and guidance on shooting practices after they purchase a camera. Therefore, since 1999, we have launched a column introducing photography techniques. In the 14 issues of the Weekly Tips column, we first cover some basic knowledge, followed by useful shooting techniques in practical photography. The prerequisite for taking good photos is not only mastering camera operation and understanding the interconnections of shooting techniques but also paying attention to the decisive skill of composition. For example: From which position should you shoot to better convey the subject? What focal length can enhance the expressiveness of the photo? When is the best time to shoot during the day? How are successful portraits achieved? Are there any rules to follow to capture engaging photos that attract viewers? Every photographer who doesn’t just want to randomly press the shutter button would ask such questions. Therefore, the topic of "composition" has become increasingly emphasized in the Digital Camera photography techniques column. We are fortunate to have Jürgen R?ttgen, an experienced photojournalist and photography educator, as the author of our photography techniques column. R?ttgen initially started as an amateur photographer before graduating from the Dutch Photography Academy. He worked as a youth counselor in Lübeck, Germany, and as a commercial photographer in a Dutch advertising company. Later, he joined the public relations department of Minolta in Germany. After 1988, he chose to become a freelancer, organizing over 300 photography workshops and guiding photography trips as a photojournalist and photography educator. He has participated in the editorial work of corporate and photography magazines and published numerous photography textbooks through his own publishing company. Jürgen R?ttgen is an honorary member of the German Photography Union and one of the founders of the German Photography Association. Additionally, he has participated in international and domestic competitions and has held numerous exhibitions. The photos showcasing Jürgen R?ttgen’s photography techniques have been taken over the years across the world. Although R?ttgen now practices digital photography, most of his previous photos were shot using film in a traditional manner. Although Digital Camera focuses solely on digital photography, what matters more to us is the compositional techniques that improve image quality, rather than whether the photos are in digital or analog form. The more photography techniques published in Digital Camera, the more letters we receive from readers asking if these techniques can be downloaded or obtained in book form. This is why you are holding this book: Digital Camera: Composition Techniques.
