Features: The Decameron is the first realist masterpiece in the history of Italian literature and a literary work with great social value in world literature. The famous Italian modern critic Santici once ranked The Decameron alongside Dante's The Divine Comedy, calling it "The Human Comedy." The Decameron has had a profound influence on later writers. Works such as Shakespeare's Cymbeline, Keats's Isabella, and La Fontaine's Fables drew inspiration from The Decameron, while Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales and Marguerite de Navarre's Heptameron borrowed its framework and artistic conception. It is included in the "100 World Classics" list recommended by the American Book of Good Reading, and in the "Personal Ideal Library" list recommended by the French L'Express magazine.
