Features: Chinese painting art has a long history and is closely linked to our civilization. Since Gu Kaizhi in the Jin Dynasty, over a thousand years have passed, with numerous schools and renowned masters emerging. Unfortunately, we still lack a systematic and comprehensive work introducing the history of painting and painters. To fill this gap and allow readers to gain a more detailed understanding of Chinese painting civilization and painters, we have compiled this large-scale series. The series is divided into two parts: Ancient and Modern. The Ancient section includes over 60 painters, from Gu Kaizhi, Wu Daozi, and Wang Wei to the masters of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, each (with a few exceptions of 2-3 people) having their own volume. The Modern section features over 30 painters, including Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, and Zhou Sichen, each having their own volume. Edited by Lang Shaojun and Zhang Zhixin. This book is published in a large 32-page hardcover format, printed in color on copper paper, and includes biographies, artistic careers, painting styles, discussions on art, critiques from various scholars, chronologies, catalogs of masterpieces, and more. It also features numerous photographs of the painters' lives and work, as well as nearly 200 of their paintings. The book is rich in detailed information, well-illustrated, and both academic rigor and readability, making it an invaluable resource for experts and scholars studying Chinese painters. (Particularly the volumes on Li Liufang, Cheng Mengyang, Mei Qing, Chen Banding, and Tao Lengyue are works that fill gaps in art history.) It is also an excellent choice for young people and art enthusiasts to explore Chinese painting art.
Huang Binhong (1865–1955), originally named Maozhi, later changed his name to Zhi, styled Pucun, and later still used the name Binhong in middle age. He also used the aliases Yu Xiang and, in his later years, Hong Sou and Huangshan Shanzhong Ren. His ancestral home was in She County, Anhui, and he was born in Jinhua, Zhejiang. In his early years, he was deeply moved by current affairs and participated in organizations such as the Tongmenghui, Nan She, and the Guoxue Baocong Hui. Later, he devoted himself to scholarship, deeply studying the history and theory of painting. He worked as an editor for publications such as the Guocui Xuebao, Shenzhou Bao, and the Commercial Press, and was the chief editor of the Shenzhou Guanguo Society's "Shenzhou Daguan." He served as a professor at Xinhua Art College, Beiping Art College, and the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and was a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. With profound erudition and extensive writings, he excelled in poetry, calligraphy, painting, seal carving, and art appreciation, making him a giant in modern Chinese art history. He authored works such as "Taozi Wenzi He Zheng," "Gu Yin Guan Lun," "Gu Zhu Zhuang Lun," "Gu Wenzi Shi," "Gu Hua Wei," "Honglu Huatan," "Jian Gu Minghua Lun," "Huangshan Huajia Yuanliu," "Huafa Yaozhu," "Binhong Cangtang Yinpu," "Huaxue Bian," "Binhong Zaazu," and "Binhong Shige."
