Features: A wind band is primarily composed of wind instruments, so it is also referred to as a wind orchestra. Historically, such bands were first used for military purposes, triumphs, celebrations, and other events. To this day, they maintain this ancient tradition in both Chinese and foreign armies, earning them the name "military band." With the passage of time, this form of band has expanded beyond military applications and has become deeply integrated into various aspects of social life, such as mass gatherings, parades, as well as indoor concerts and dances. Given this, we believe that referring to it as a "wind band" is more appropriate. The wind bands introduced in this book do not refer to ensembles formed by Chinese folk wind instruments but rather those composed of Western wind and percussion instruments. This type of band boasts grandeur, rich sound, unified and blended timbres, a wide dynamic range, and the ability to perform various tonalities and complex textures. For these reasons, it has been widely adopted by countries around the world.
