Features: The stone carvings collected in this volume range from the 7th-century Chala Lhupu Grottoes in Lhasa, Tibet, to the Shannan, Ngari, and Lhasa Yoke Mountain regions of Tibet, as well as widely across the interior. They extend south to the Feilai Peak in Hangzhou, north to the Wutasi Temple in Inner Mongolia and the Juyong Pass in Hebei, and east to the Haigang Mountain in Fuxin. These carvings cover all periods and styles of Tibetan Buddhist culture. The collection includes 226 Buddhist sculptures such as temple structures, stupas, cave reliefs, cliff niches, and Mani stone carvings. Among them, Mani stone carvings are a unique form of Tibetan worship of deities. These carvings emphasize both color and design, with layouts that adapt organically to the stone's natural contours, showcasing distinct religious and folk characteristics.
