Features: Preface to the Series This series of books has been in print since March 1991, when the first edition of Mathematical Learning Theory was published. It has now been six years. If we count back to the initial planning of the series for teaching theory in mathematics in early 1988, it has spanned nine years. Today, the teaching theory series for the five major subjects—mathematics, physics, chemistry, Chinese language, and foreign languages—has been fully developed, with 30 books in total, 6 for each subject, collectively titled Modern Educational Theory Series for Disciplines. These extensive millions of words have constituted the fundamental theoretical research of basic disciplines and also formed the core publishing project and the fundamental publishing specialty of our press. It has taken nearly a decade to build a complete set of educational theory series with Chinese characteristics. The twists and turns, the joys and sorrows along the way are naturally beyond words. But from the perspective of reflecting teaching reform achievements and serving teaching reform, it is a duty we must fulfill. Considering the construction of the publishing personality and culture of our press, it holds profound significance and great value. In the new historical period of reform and opening up, on what can a publishing house rely? What can it compete on? What can it strive for development? What can it offer? There can be many answers and numerous strategies. But fundamentally, there are at least two essential elements: one relies on the core project, and two relies on prestigious and high-quality products. The core project is the strategic layout of a publishing house, while prestigious and high-quality products are its soul and lifeblood. The perfect integration of the two constitutes the quality, credibility, reputation, and cultural sophistication of a publishing house. It is the foundation of its existence, the means of competition, the driving force for sustainable development, the main body of cultural accumulation, and the fundamental guarantee for offering excellent culture to the people. With this understanding and pursuit, we have published this series. Of course, we also have several other series. We look forward to the judgment of our readers. We welcome the testing of the market. We also long for the support of the educational and theoretical communities. We will continue to strive as always, employing all means to contribute more high-quality products to education, the nation, and the future.
