Features: The new "English Curriculum Standards" emphasize that middle school English courses should focus on cultivating students' abilities to obtain, process, and convey information in English. Teachers should encourage students to develop comprehensive listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through methods such as experience, practice, discussion, cooperation, and exploration. The current trend in social development is to place increasing importance on English listening and speaking abilities, i.e., the ability to communicate in English. For many Chinese English learners, however, improving speaking and listening skills is a deeply challenging issue. Although our English classrooms already place great emphasis on developing these skills, the limited time in class makes it impossible for every student to have sufficient opportunities for practice. Moreover, as a foreign language, English lacks a favorable language environment for many students to use it. To address the unfavorable situation of "not understanding, not being able to speak, and difficulty in communicating directly with foreigners," we have carefully compiled this series, "Harry's English Speaking Show," divided into six volumes: Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11, and Grade 12. This series possesses features and advantages that many previous oral English guides lack, with a strong emphasis on practicality, offering learners an invaluable tool for oral learning and practice. Each unit in this series covers an independent topic, teaching you how to greet others, introduce yourself or others, shop, see a doctor, ask for directions, make phone calls, or offer help, and how to express gratitude, congratulations, or regret, covering almost every aspect of daily life where English might be used. Additionally, to prepare for the oral test in the National Public English Test (PETS), each unit includes a set of simulated oral test questions, helping you improve your practical speaking skills while familiarizing yourself with the oral exam format. Each volume is divided into three main parts: "Skill Show," "Scene Show," and Appendices. The "Skill Show" combines the insights and experiences of the editors and numerous successful English learners to provide a macro-level introduction to oral English learning, guiding you to practice speaking scientifically and effectively while motivating you to build confidence in mastering it. Each topic in the "Scene Show" is divided into four parts: Background Knowledge, Essential Phrases, Scene Practice, and Oral Proficiency. The "Background Knowledge" provides detailed explanations of the cultural context related to each topic and potential issues learners might encounter in oral communication. The "Essential Phrases" offers commonly used typical sentences for memorization. The "Scene Practice" presents possible scenarios for learners to imitate and reference. The "Oral Proficiency" simulates the PETS oral test, allowing learners to practice with classmates or friends. The Appendices include common classroom expressions and an introduction to the National Public English Test (PETS) ( level), explaining its format, structure, and content to help students pass the exam smoothly. This series is also accompanied by audio cassettes for learners to imitate and improve their listening skills. To fully utilize this series, learners must read and listen extensively. Recordings should be listened to and imitated repeatedly; sentences and dialogues should be memorized thoroughly until they become your own natural language, allowing you to speak effortlessly. Use the English phrases and sentences you have learned and memorized in daily life and studies to make your language "come alive"! I believe that with continuous effort, the right methods, and practical tools, students can surely overcome the challenge of English speaking!
