Features: Simply put, this book adheres to four principles:
First, the selected texts should as much as possible reflect the contemporary era, hence the dominance of contemporary articles. Due to various reasons, there are shortcomings in this aspect in teaching materials. Extracurricular reading selections can make up for these shortcomings.
Second, the selected texts must be both excellent in content and style. The ideological content must be correct and healthy, with authors' thoughts and emotions being positive and uplifting. The tone of the articles should be high, which is fundamental. Additionally, the language must be good, as an important task for middle school students learning Chinese is to study the language of their motherland.
Third, the selected texts must be suitable for the ideological, life, knowledge, and age realities of middle school students.
Fourth, the main focus is on literary works, primarily essays, (personal essays), and reportage, and they should be as short and highly readable as possible.
