Publish Date: 2001-10-01
Features: An introduction to Han Yu, the first of the Eight Great Masters of Classical Chinese prose in the Tang and Song dynasties, who pioneered a new literary style. However, after Han Yu's death, his writings were lost for two hundred years and were not rediscovered until the early Song Dynasty. The "Collected Works of Master Changli" in six volumes were found, but unfortunately, they were incomplete, disorganized, and lacked proper order. Although they were later compiled, they still contained many errors. In his later years, Zhu Xi built upon the earlier compilations, thoroughly examined the differences and similarities among various editions, and used the flow of the text, the principles of meaning, and verifiable information from other works to judge and select the content. He retained the reasonable parts of the old editions.
