The direct purpose of compiling this book is to meet the urgent teaching needs of higher education institutions related to relevant disciplines, as well as to provide readers with a necessary framework and overall outline for studying Marxist literary theory. For professional researchers, it may serve as a reference, acting as a catalyst for further exploration. In the process of compiling this book, we start from the original works of classical Marxist thinkers to elucidate the essence of the texts and explore the profound and extensive theoretical system of Marxist literary theory. When it comes to differing interpretations of the original works, we seek consensus while preserving differences through discussion and deliberation. This approach ensures a unified perspective throughout the book while allowing for appropriate expressions of personal insights in the chapters.
To achieve the above objectives, we have also compiled a companion reader titled Selected Readings in Marxist Literary Theory, which aligns with the content system of this book.
