内容简介:
Throughout the history of human civilization, there are few cultures as splendid, continuous, and enduring as that of the Chinese nation. The Chinese civilization is like an unending river, sparkling with stars, leaving one awestruck and speechless. After the Opium War, facing the new global landscape and the large-scale influx of Western learning that accompanied the imperialistic military might, the Chinese civilization, which had developed and thrived in relative isolation in the East, began to face severe shocks and challenges. Embracing these inevitable impacts and challenges, reviving the vitality and brilliance of Chinese civilization, and choosing the path of national cultural renewal and self-strengthening became a crucial issue for modern China and the Chinese nation. Since the Opium War, through the arduous struggles and explorations of generations of dedicated scholars and the long, rapid transformations over several decades, by the May Fourth period, Chinese culture and literature had largely completed its painful transformation from classical to modern, taking firm and determined steps toward the modern era. Modern Chinese literature originated during the May Fourth Movement, while the literature of the late Qing period that followed the Opium War laid its foundation and paved the way.
