Author: Teaching and Research Group of General Chemistry, Zhejiang University
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-07-01
Features: This book is a research outcome of the Ministry of Education's "Reform Plan for Teaching Content and Curriculum Systems in Higher Education Towards the 21st Century," and is part of the "21st Century Curriculum Textbooks" and the Ministry of Education's "Key Textbooks for the 9th Five-Year Plan." It is a revised version of General Chemistry (4th Edition). The book emphasizes fundamental theories and knowledge in chemistry, focuses on the connection with engineering practice, pays attention to social and life hot topics, and emphasizes quality education. The book is divided into eight chapters. Chapters 1 to 4 are primarily based on the fundamental principles of chemical reactions and chemical reactions, introducing thermodynamics, chemical thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, hydrochemistry, and electrochemistry, while also incorporating discussions on energy, atmospheric pollution, water pollution, and metal corrosion. Chapters 5 to 8 focus on the theory of material structure and material properties, using the latest achievements in theoretical chemistry to introduce the structures and characteristics of atoms, molecules, biopolymers, supramolecules, crystals, and their relationships with the periodic system, as well as element chemistry, inorganic materials, polymer compounds and materials, life and health, etc. Each chapter includes content summaries and learning objectives, selected readings, summaries, supplementary reading materials for students outside of class, review questions, and exercises (with some optional exercises marked with and open-ended questions marked with ▲). The book also includes answers to exercises and appendices at the end. This book can be used as a textbook for non-chemical engineering majors in higher industrial schools.
.. The second edition (revised in 1981) of this book won the first prize of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Textbooks Award for Higher Education (1976–1985) in 1986; the third edition won the National Excellence Award for General Higher Education Textbooks in 1992 (the second edition, 1986–1989); and the fourth edition won the second prize of the Ministry of Education's Science and Technology Progress Award in 1999.
