China, anciently known as Huaxia, is a great nation with thousands of years of civilization. From its humble beginnings to the era of globalization, its journey has been filled with hardships and challenges, embodying the boundless wisdom of its ancestors in building and maintaining a civilized nation. Throughout human history, there have been countless instances of hegemonic shifts and the rise and fall of great powers. Learning from the past to understand the present, our concept of a "great nation" is not merely about this. From the era of Yao, Shun, and Yu to the modern nation-state, the Chinese people have relied on the ancient saying: "The sea embraces all rivers, and tolerance defines greatness." Some say, "Greatness is akin to old age." The Erya dictionary states, "Greatness is the term for multitude." Indeed, "greatness brings its own challenges." However, others argue, "Greatness is righteousness." The Book of Changes says, "To be full and radiant is to be great." The Mencius and Zuo Zhuan commentaries state, "A nation, like heaven and earth, stands on certain principles." The publication of The Great Nation aims to explore the principles of China, an ancient civilized great nation, in navigating its place and establishing itself in the modern international community. Let us work together to draw wisdom from the vast ocean of ancient and modern, Eastern and Western knowledge.
