Choral singing belongs to the category of vocal arts, being a variety of multivoice music and one of the performance art forms centered on group singing. While similar to other vocal singing forms in terms of using vocal production as its foundation and requiring good breath support and resonance, choir singing distinguishes itself from other vocal forms in its vocal production and tone color application, as well as in its artistic characteristics, artistic qualities, and expressive features. Choir art emphasizes commonality, pursuing harmonious, balanced, and three-dimensional harmonic beauty, while focusing on coordinated, dynamic tone color beauty.
As a required course for music majors in higher normal universities, Choir classes primarily aim to cultivate students' appreciation for choir and their ability to sing multivoice choir songs through the teaching of choir knowledge and training skills, as well as practical rehearsal and performance activities. This further enables students to master basic methods of choir teaching, choir training techniques, and organizational skills for choir formation, rehearsal, and performance, laying a solid foundation for their future work in school music instruction, extracurricular teaching activities, and social choir engagements.
According to the teaching plans and schedules of music programs in higher normal universities, undergraduate choir courses are typically offered in the third year, while associate degree choir courses are usually scheduled in the second year. The curriculum primarily consists of two main parts: basic choir training and choir works teaching.
