Music appreciation is a required course for music majors. It enables students to broadly explore various musical works, experience and understand music through musical practice. Music appreciation helps students accumulate outstanding works from both China and abroad, enhancing their knowledge of music appreciation. At the same time, it serves as an important途径 to broaden students' artistic horizons and improve their artistic qualities.
The recreational role and educational function of music have gradually become a common consensus. People have fully recognized the importance of musical art in current quality education, making music appreciation and participation in music a fashionable trend for modern people, especially contemporary youth. However, for music majors, we believe that music appreciation should not be just a purely knowledge-based course but should also be one that combines "skills." This means not only helping students appreciate and accumulate musical language by engaging with musical works but also cultivating their ability to independently analyze and interpret music, as well as mastering the fundamental "skills" and methods of music appreciation. In light of this, the book does not follow the common approach of analyzing and explaining individual works, but instead focuses on systematically presenting knowledge and methods of music appreciation. It elaborates on chapters such as the basic expressive means of music, the expressive significance of musical forms, the fundamental classification of vocal and instrumental music, the expressive characteristics of various genres, music in the comprehensive arts, and the stylistic features of common musical schools. Additionally, it incorporates numerous examples from outstanding musical works from both China and abroad, emphasizing the combination of theory and practice, and complementing knowledge with musical scores. This allows students to not only broadly engage with famous musical works from both China and abroad but also deeply understand their内涵 and expressive means, while gradually mastering the knowledge and methods of music appreciation, achieving dual success in knowledge and "skills."
In the teaching of this course, the principle of combining theoretical instruction with listening to sound recordings should be implemented, with emphasis on cultivating and developing students' ability to independently appreciate music. In terms of teaching arrangements, the focus should be on the expressive means and stylistic characteristics of music, as well as the classification of vocal and instrumental music and the teaching of genre features, progressing step by step and gradually deepening.
