This textbook is compiled in accordance with the teaching requirements of the course on a Concise History of Chinese Art. It systematically introduces the main artistic phenomena, art schools, and artists from prehistoric to modern times in China. It also provides detailed art analyses of representative excellent works in painting, sculpture, crafts, and architecture from various periods. The textual content is accompanied by corresponding images to enhance students' intuitive understanding of the works and to enable them to gain a clear and comprehensive grasp of the main development lines of Chinese art through the stylistic evolution of specific works.
This textbook aims to help students systematically understand the long history and glorious achievements of Chinese national art. While mastering the basic knowledge of Chinese art, it also equips students with the ability to research and analyze various artistic styles and forms, laying a sustainable theoretical foundation for their current professional studies and future careers. Based on the characteristics of art education in general higher education institutions, given the profound origins and vast resources of Chinese art history, this textbook does not aim for comprehensiveness but rather provides concise and accessible introductions to the trends and features of art development in each period to avoid overwhelming students with excessive detail. The overall trends and major characteristics of art development in each period are highlighted in the chapter titles and briefly introduced in the chapter overviews.
