Features: The contents of this collection can be broadly divided into three categories. One category is related to Zhuangzi studies. My research on the Zhuangzi began in the mid-1950s, but my focus was primarily on the Taishang chapter. However, my comprehensive and systematic study of Zhuangzi as a person and his works started in 1980. Another category is the study of the history of Chinese classics. My research in this field began in the mid-1950s during my time studying at the Department of History at Fudan University. During the lectures on the History of Chinese Classics by Professor Zhou Yutong, I developed a strong interest in it. Most of the key reference books he recommended, I have read, and my graduation thesis was also on a topic related to the history of classics. The third category consists of miscellaneous writings. Excluding five papers on the study and teaching of traditional culture (including the article Parallel Prose and the Cultural Spirit of China, co-authored with Xu Sheng), it also includes two essays on Peking Opera, one tribute to Professor Zhou Yutong, two prefaces written in classical Chinese, and one short poem, which also offer insights into my work arrangements, research directions, and interests.
