Features: This book is compiled according to the new PETS examination syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education. Entries generally consist of the following parts: headword, phonetic transcription, part of speech, inflectional forms of the headword, definition, memory tips, typical examples, examination points, vocabulary expansion, and classic examination questions.
(1) Headword: Words and phrases specified in the PETS examination syllabus vocabulary list.
(2) Phonetic Transcription: The pronunciation of the headword is indicated using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) after the headword. If a word has different pronunciations due to different parts of speech, both pronunciations are placed in brackets and separated by a semicolon. Generally, one pronunciation is marked for each headword; less common variant pronunciations are sometimes also provided, separated by a semicolon.
(3) Part of Speech: The part of speech is indicated in italics using English abbreviations. If a headword has multiple parts of speech, its
