The history of the Liao, Song, Western Xia, and Jin dynasties represents a stage in Chinese history, with the Liao, Song, Western Xia, and Jin histories being the four components of Chinese history during this period. The Liao, Western Xia, and Jin dynasties were all products of the expansion of northern tribal leaders' authority combined with traditional Chinese political culture. Under their rule, although the Han Chinese formed the majority, the ruling class was predominantly ethnic minorities. The economies, politics, and cultures within the realms of these three dynasties had distinct characteristics compared to those within the Song Dynasty. Therefore, the study of Song history cannot replace or encompass the study of Liao, Western Xia, and Jin history.
This book aims to provide a summary of the main aspects and significant achievements in the study of the Liao, Western Xia, and Jin dynasties since the 20th century. It introduces readers to scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the field of Liao, Western Xia, and Jin history, as well as their important research findings.
