Features: Journalism and communication is a discipline closely linked to social development and highly practical. With the rapid growth of China's journalism and communication industry and the continuous intensification of reform and opening-up efforts, the knowledge in this field is constantly being updated, and the discipline is continuously improving. To avoid the phenomenon of "textbook content aging" and the detachment of theoretical construction from the development of social reality, we have conducted a large-scale revision of the "Modern Journalism and Communication Series." This revision was carried out based on two principles: 1. To absorb as much new research achievements from domestic and international journalism and communication as possible, guiding students to the forefront of the discipline through the textbooks. 2. To maintain the original textbooks' self-study-friendly features—clear concepts, well-organized knowledge points, and concise, lucid explanations. In the Preface of the original textbooks, we stated: "The development of a discipline is boundless. In line with this aspiration, let our textbooks become more characteristic of the times and more adaptable to social needs as they gradually improve. This series has been renamed the '21st Century Journalism and Communication Series.'" The revised series can not only serve as teaching materials for self-study in journalism by correspondence but also be used by journalism students in ordinary universities and professionals in the journalism and communication system. Professor Zhu Donglin, the original planner of this series, devoted a great deal of effort to every aspect, from topic selection to drafting and reviewing. The Suzhou University Press places great importance on the publication of this textbook series, and the relevant responsible person specifically planned this revision, proposing clear requirements for the guiding principles, format, schedule, and layout, as well as making meticulous arrangements. We hereby express our gratitude to them. Due to the rapid development of science and technology in the journalism and communication industry, innovation is the eternal theme of this discipline. Therefore, paying attention to the development of theory and practice in this field will be our long-term task. At the same time, we also look forward to the criticism and suggestions of experts and peers so that we can make corrections in future revisions.
